Our Story
On the afternoon of Sunday, May 1, 2005, a small group gathered at Faith United Church of Christ to worship together. That first gathering, humble and uncertain, marked the beginning of what would become Journey Church, a vibrant, Gospel-centered community of faith committed to loving God, loving people, and making disciples...
Journey Church was founded by Pastor Alex Rivera and a few faithful friends. After serving for several years as a music and youth minister at a local church, Pastor Alex sensed a clear call from God to plant a life-giving church in his hometown, one that would passionately reach those far from God, build authentic community, and reflect the love of Jesus in every way. To build communities of faith around the world committed to rescuing people far from God and journeying with them as they grow in Christ.
We are a church on mission, passionate about life change, community transformation, and spiritual growth through the power of the Gospel. We believe that rescuing people far from God and walking with them as they grow in Christ requires more than just dynamic weekend gatherings; it demands everyday expressions of love, grace, and truth in the places people live, work, and heal. For us, communities of faith are not limited to large worship assemblies; they also include house churches, small groups, recovery homes, orphanages, and every place where people are being discipled and restored. Wherever the Gospel is being lived and shared, we see the Church advancing, and that’s where we want to be.
