Our Beliefs

WE BELIEVE IN THE APOSTLES' CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
He is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

God - There is one God, eternally existent as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and co-eternal. God is one; infinite in power, holy in nature, and personal in His love for mankind. Exodus 3:14; Numbers 23:19; Leviticus 11:44-45; 19:2; Psalm 11:4-6; Malachi 3:6; John 3:16; 4:24; 5:26; 14:1; Acts 17:28; Romans 3:3-4

THE BIBLE - The Bible is the inspired Word of God, revealing the will of God. These writings are the unique and final authority on all matters of faith and how it is lived out. The Bible is the sole basis of our belief system. Deuteronomy 4:1-2; Psalms 119:11, 89, 105; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 22:29; John 5:39; 16:13-15; 17:17; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 1:1-2; 4:12; 1 Peter 1:25; 2 Peter 3:16

MAN - Man was created in the image of God, but as a result of sin, is lost and powerless to save himself – Man’s only hope of salvation is to be redeemed and delivered from the power of sin and death through faith in the Blood of Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again according to the Holy Scriptures. God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female – These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. That every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture or the doctrines of Journey Church. Genesis 1:26-30; 2:7, 18-22; 3; Psalms 8:3-6; 32:1-5; 51:5; Isaiah 6:5; Jeremiah 17:5; Acts 17:26-31; Romans 1:19-32; 3:10-18, 23; 5:6; 6:6; 7:14-25; 1 Corinthians 1:21-31; 15:19, 21-22; Ephesians 2; Colossians 1:21-22; 3:9-11; Genesis 1:26-27; Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31

JESUS - Jesus Christ, eternally with the Father, took upon Himself the form of man, and being born of the virgin, lived a sinless life. He voluntarily gave His life on the cross as the supreme sacrifice for our sins, bringing salvation to all who trust in Him alone. After His physical death, Jesus Christ rose from the dead and ascended into heaven as the only intercessor between God and humans. He promises to personally return to earth to fulfill the eternal plan of God.- Isaiah 7:14; 53; Matthew 1:18-23; 3:17; 8:29; 14:33; 16:16; 28:5-6; Luke 22:70; 24:46-47; John 1:1, 14; 10:30; 11:25-27; 17:1-5; Acts 1:9; 2:22-24; 7:55-56; Romans 1:3-4; 3:23-26; 8:1-3; 10:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Gal 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15; 2:9; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; 3:16

HOLY SPIRIT - The Holy Spirit leads believers to live a life of Christ-like character and bear fruit for the Father's glory. The baptism of the Holy Spirit empowers believers to apply the Bible to their own lives and to do great things for Him. The gifts of the Spirit that was evident in the early church are available, through faith, for us today. Genesis 1:2; Psalm 51:11; 139:7 ff.; Isaiah 61:1-3; Joel 2:28-32; Mark 1:10; Luke 1:35; 4:1; 11:13; 12:12; John 15:26; 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; 2:1-4; 13:2; Romans 8:9-11, 14-16, 26-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13-14; 2 Peter 1:21; Revelation 22:17

SALVATION - We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ: His death, burial, and resurrection. Salvation is a gift from God, not a result of our good works or of any human efforts. Repentance - is the commitment to turn away from sin in every area of our lives and to follow Christ, which allows us to receive His redemption and to be regenerated by the Holy Spirit. Thus, through repentance, we receive forgiveness of sins and appropriate salvation. Isaiah 1:18; 53:5-6; 55:7; Matthew 1:21; 27:22-66, 28:1-6; Luke 1:68-69; 2:28-32; John 1:12; 3:16, 36; 5:24; Acts 2:21; 4:12; 16:30-31; Romans 1:16-18; 3:23-25; 5:8-10; 6; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Galatians 2:20; 3:13; Ephesians 2:8-10; Philippians 2:12-13; Hebrews 9:24-28; Revelation 3:20

THE CHURCH - All who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are united with Him as members of His body, the one true church. Scripture commands believers to gather for worship, prayer, fellowship, and the teaching of the Word; to observe Baptism and Communion as established by Jesus Christ; to offer service to the body through the development and use of talents, gifts, and outreach to the world. The local expression of the church is wherever God's people meet regularly in obedience to this command. Church members are to work together in love and unity for the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ. - Matthew 16:18-19; 18:15-20; Acts 2:41-47; 5:11-14; 13:1-3; 14:23; 16:5; 20:28; 1 Corinthians 7:17; 9:13-14; 12; Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 3:10-12; 5:22-32; Colossians 1:18; 3:15; 1 Timothy 4:14; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 21:2-3

MARRIAGE & SEXUALITY - We recognize that human sexuality is a gift from God, designed by the Creator to be shared within the context of a marriage. We affirm that God has ordained marriage and defined it as the covenant relationship between one man and one woman. Therefore, the heterosexual union for married persons and committed celibate behavior for unmarried persons are the only Biblical options for human sexual conduct. We believe God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Genesis 1:27, 2:24; I Thessalonians 4:3-8; Hebrews 13:4; Romans 1:18-32; I Corinthians 5:1, 6:9-11

SANCTITY OF LIFE - We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:13, Jeremiah 1:5, Genesis 1:26-28.

OUR COMMITMENT TO UNITY AND TRUTH

At Journey Church, we are deeply committed to preserving the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace. While we make space for differences in areas that are not essential to salvation, what Scripture calls “disputable matters,” we hold fast to the foundational doctrines of the Christian faith. These core truths are non-negotiable, as they define the Gospel we proclaim and the unity we share in Christ.

We believe, as the prophet Amos said, that “two cannot walk together unless they are agreed.” For this reason, we joyfully walk in agreement on the essentials such as the nature of God, the authority of Scripture, salvation through Jesus Christ, and the empowering work of the Holy Spirit. These truths form the bedrock of our fellowship and mission.

At the same time, we embrace a spirit of grace and humility toward one another in areas where sincere believers may differ. In all things—whether we agree or disagree—we are called to love.

In essentials, we pursue unity. In non-essentials, we offer liberty. And in all things, we live out love.
